Our Experience

Hampton, VA

In 2010, JRIA prepared an archaeological resource analysis on behalf of the Fort Monroe Federal Area Development Authority (now the Fort Monroe Authority). The study synthesized all previous archaeological testing at the installation, outlined the archaeological stipulations of the 2009 Programmatic Agreement governing the transfer of the property from the U.S. Army; and evaluated the archaeological sensitivity of the five designated historic property management zones. JRIA also conducted an intensive archaeological investigation at Casemate 22 in conjunction with an architectural/engineering study undertaken by Commonwealth Architects to guide future rehabilitation efforts. The archaeological testing identified and documented the major structural components of the casemate roof and flooring systems.
